Breaking the Stigma of Substance Misuse and Addiction for Construction Workers (Note: this virtual session is free)

Description:

The construction industry has taken steps to reduce the risks and liabilities of substance misuse among the workforce. However, the stress, uncertainties, and anxieties of the pandemic have magnified the risk of substance misuse or addiction relapse among workers and their families. Traditional approaches like drug testing and waiting for employees to either seek help through EAPs or hit rock bottom are not effective. Learn how breakthrough behavioral health solutions can help employers reduce risks and improve the wellbeing of workers.

Brand Newland, PharmD, is CEO and Co-founder of Goldfinch Health based in Austin, Texas. Goldfinch Health optimizes the surgery and recovery experience for patients, saving companies and patients time, money, and addiction. Inspired by personal experiences with the pitfalls of surgery and a lack of proactive solutions to the opioid crisis, Brand helped to launch a vision toward a higher standard of care in surgery and recovery in 2018. He has over 15 years of experience in bringing new health care solutions to payers, employers, health care providers, and patients. Brand received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa, his MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and holds a certification in pain management. Waging a Counterattack on Opioids in the Workplace and at Home

Description:

The opioid crisis is waging a war across the US. More than 105,000 Americans died of overdoses from October 2020 to October 2021.  This number has more than doubled in the past 5 years. 75% of these were the result of opioids; 87% of the opioid overdoses are from the lethal synthetic Fentanyl and related analogs. 28 states had increases of 30% or greater in opioid overdoses in 2020. According to the National Safety Council, approximately 75% of workplaces are affected by this crisis.

Construction workers and extended families are disproportionately at risk. Learn how to protect your workforce and your family from opioids through practical and proven first-exposure (dose) prevention strategies in Workers Compensation and Employee Health Benefit Programs. Learn risk assessment methods to evaluate the risk in your organizations and families.  Learn innovative approaches to counter these identified exposures through risk management strategies to prevent and mitigate exposure to first doses and/or addiction during medical and surgical procedures.
