In 2020, there were 351 fatal falls to a lower level out of 1,008 construction fatalities (BLS data). These deaths are preventable. The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.
A Safety Stand-Down is a voluntary event for employers to talk directly to employees about safety. Any workplace can hold a stand-down by taking a break to focus on “Fall Hazards and reinforcing the importance of “Fall Prevention.”
Check it out – the OSHA website provides comprehensive instruction and resources on how to conduct an effective safety stand-down addressing fall prevention programs for the construction industry. These resources include posters that can be used to cascade the stand-down, tool box talks, videos and fall protection training resources. Most of the resources are provided in both English and Spanish to support diverse workforces.
