New Normal in the Workplace


The SLC3 is excited to present to you our program topic: New Normal in the Workplace.  There has been a lot of discussion regarding the changes taking place in our work environments and what it means to all of us.  We will explore the AEC impacts with a panel of industry professionals as well as hear from a HR expert and what this so called new normal means for our workforce overall.

This program does qualify for 1.5 continuing education credits.  The PDH/LU will be available under Resources after the program.

PARKING: Note, parking garage for the building is available.  Please park in the InterPark Stadium East Garage (connected to building) and access the building from the 6th or yellow level of the garage via the Sky Bridge. HOK is located on the 2nd level of the building. Parking vouchers will be provided at the program for departure compliments of the SLC3. NOTE: Parking in any other garage will not be complimentary to attendees.

Moderator:  Monica Conners, Ameren (Business Development Executive)

Monica works throughout the Ameren Missouri service territory to deliver energy solutions that support economic vitality throughout the State. She specializes in attraction and expansion opportunities and manages the Ameren economic development incentive process for clients looking to grow or expand.




Senior Director Total Workplace (Cushman & Wakefield)

Angie is Senior Director in the Total Workplace practice at Cushman & Wakefield and is based in St. Louis. She is deeply experienced and committed to excellence in workplace strategy and change management thought leadership. As a senior member of the Total Workplace practice, Angie works closely with account directors, portfolio managers, brokerage and project management leads to deliver superior workplace and change management consulting services to clients in the Midwest and Eastern region of the US. Angie and the Total Workplace team focus on the employee experience, creating dynamic and flexible workplace environments and optimizing space utilization to “future ready” buildings and portfolios. They support occupants with sophisticated change programs including campaigns that address behavioral changes required to ensure adoption of the new ways of working.

Angie has served both public and private sector clients in industries including insurance, financial services, science and technology; R&D, government, and higher education providing workplace strategy, facility planning, and change management services.

Angie is a frequent industry conference speaker on workplace strategy and industry best practices and an inductee of the Midwest Real Estate Hall of Fame in 2020. She is an active member of CoreNet, IFMA, ULI, CREW, and a recent Director on the CREW Network Global Board of Directors and past president of CREW St. Louis.

Senior Design & Construction Project Manager (SSM HEALTH)

Pat is a Senior Planning, Design, Construction Project Manager at SSM Health in St. Louis.  With over 30 years of experience working in the design and construction industry, she has an extensive healthcare project portfolio.  Beginning her career working in plant operations, Pat has evolved into her current role.

Working closely with SSM Health leadership, Pat leads her teams throughout the St. Louis Region in ground up builds, renovation of hospital departments, and medical office spaces.  Pat has also been instrumental in creating office spaces throughout the region, focusing on the importance of flexibility and functionality.  She has been instrumental in creating finish design standards for the region.  Pat fosters an environment of teamwork and ensures that strategy is clearly defined while overseeing the projects performance.

Pats education includes a Liberal Studies degree from University of Missouri St. Louis, Project Management from St. Louis University and certificate of Construction Management from St. Louis Community College. She is a NCIDQ certified Interior Designer and is OSHA certified. Professional memberships include, ASHE, SLC3 Board member, CREW mentorship and education committees, and MOSHE education committee.

Owner – HR & Talent Acquisition Consultant (People’s Solution Center)

Katie Magoon has over 20 years of human resources experience including a Fortune 200 company.  In 2016, she launched People Solutions Center an HR consulting firm for small to mid-size companies and non-profit organizations.  The combination of her HR background, and practical experience allows her to advise leaders on how to best leverage their greatest asset – their people!

She was recently recognized as a Finalist for Most Innovative Company for the 2019 Business Excellence Awards, Finalist for Best HR Organization in 2020 and Finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year in 2022.  She’s been a presenter for several state level Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) conferences and many SHRM chapters across the country.  In addition, she recently presented for the American Association for Access, Equity and Diversity national conference.

Senior Principal/Director of WorkPlace (HOK)

With more than 35 years of experience, Kay is a recognized expert on workplace design and strategy issues. She is an award-winning designer who has worked with several Fortune 500 companies to optimize their global real estate portfolios and create innovative work environments based on their unique organizational DNA. As Co-Director of HOK’s WorkPlace team, a practice that supports organizations undertaking multiple projects in various locations, and a member of HOK’s Board of Directors, Kay is responsible for helping clients redefine how, when and where their people work, and supports a holistic design approach that integrates an organization’s people, processes and technology. She was recently selected from her field of peers to provide Congressional Subject Matter Expert Testimony to the U.S. House of Representatives on “Federal Real Estate Post-COVID-19: A View from The Private Sector.”

In 2020 Kay was named ASID’s Designer of Distinction for the year. Kay is considered an industry thought leaders on workplace. She has authored multiple white papers and articles on a variety of design related topics including wellbeing; next gen workforce; technologies impact on the workplace; space fusion and the rise of the human factor.

Kay currently serves on the National ASID Foundation Research Taskforce, the IWBI Health Equity Advisory Team and the Advisory Board for WorkDesign Magazine and I&S Magazine. She was recently appointed to the University of Richmond Customer Experience Advisory Board after serving two years on the George Washington University Customer Experience Certificate Program Advisory Council. During her career she has also served on the International Boards of CoreNet Global, AVIXA, and IFI – International Federation of Interior Designers /Architects, the Boards of ASID, IIDA and NCQLP and the Advisory Board of Virginia Tech School of Architecture and Design and NVCC.  She is an active member of IFMA and co-founder of the IFMA Workplace Evoluntionaries, WE community and serves as an Executive committee for WE. Kay is committed to mentoring the next generation of designers and as such mentors multiple individuals within HOK and across the industry.  She is also a Founder of the DC Chapter of UPWARD, a global network dedicated to the professional advancement of women in the workplace.
